Plans to develop a ‘Fourth Mumbai’ in Maharashtra’s Palghar district are gaining traction, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiling major infrastructure initiatives during a recent event. Key projects include the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train—likely to pass through the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR)—and a proposed extension of the Mumbai Coastal Road to the upcoming Vadhavan Port.
“This region will host India’s largest port and a new international airport, both of which have received approval from the Prime Minister. Plans are also underway to extend the bullet train and coastal road to this area,” the Chief Minister said.
The state government aims to begin construction of Mumbai’s third international airport—near Vadhavan Port—within the next four to five years.
This integrated development strategy is expected to decongest Mumbai, spur regional growth, and improve connectivity within Maharashtra and to neighbouring states.
