Days after the collapse of the Mahisagar River bridge in Vadodara district, the Gujarat government has approved ₹212 crore for the construction of a parallel two-lane bridge to restore connectivity and ensure public safety.
On 13 July 2025, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel granted administrative clearance to the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department for the new bridge, which will be built near Mujpur, linking Vadodara and Anand districts. The project is scheduled for completion within 18 months, with the tendering process already initiated.
The R&B Department has completed a detailed project report based on a recent survey of the area. In addition to the bridge, Superintending Engineer N.V. Rathva confirmed that the existing two-lane Mujpur approach road will be upgraded to four lanes, and a 4.2-km road stretch connecting the highway to the new bridge site will also be developed.
The project is seen as a critical step toward ensuring safe and efficient regional transportation following the recent infrastructure failure.
