Greater Bengaluru Plan Nears Finish Line, Cabinet Awaits

A detailed roadmap for the development of Greater Bengaluru is in its final stages and will be presented to the Karnataka Cabinet at its upcoming meeting, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced on July 7, 2025.

“We are in the process of finalising the Greater Bengaluru development plan,” he said, highlighting a key milestone in the state government’s urban governance reform efforts.

This initiative follows Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s earlier announcement that the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act would soon replace the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) with a newly formed Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). The Deputy CM had earlier stated that BBMP’s administrative re-division would be completed by September 15, paving the way for the GBA’s establishment.

In preparation, Shivakumar and GBA officials visited Delhi in June to study best practices adopted by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, focusing on urban planning, waste management, and building regulations.
