As part of Phase 2 of the Old Gurugram Metro project, Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) will construct five key underpasses to ease traffic congestion in the city’s older areas. The decision was finalized during a recent Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) board meeting chaired by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
The underpasses will be built at the following locations:
Sector-3A/4/5 Chowk near Railway Road
Sector-5 junction to Sheetla Mata Road (one-way)
Bajghera Road
Sector-5 to Krishna Chowk
Palam Vihar Road to Udyog Vihar, including the Palam Vihar Road Junction and Old Delhi Road
The project is estimated to cost around ₹350 crore. Systra has been appointed to prepare the detailed project reports (DPRs) for all five underpasses.
GMDA will fund the initiative, while GMRL will oversee execution, ensuring integration with the ongoing Metro expansion. The underpasses are expected to significantly reduce chronic traffic bottlenecks in the old city.
This development runs in parallel with work on the broader 28.5-km Gurugram Metro corridor from Millennium City Centre to Cyber City. In Phase 1, a ₹1,286 crore tender has already been floated for civil works along the stretch from Millennium City Centre to Sector-9.
Additionally, construction of the underpass at Bakhtawar Chowk—previously under GMDA—has now been handed to GMRL, to be built at a revised cost of ₹80.45 crore as part of the integrated Metro infrastructure.
