GAIL (India) Ltd. has announced a landmark achievement with the successful berthing and discharge of its first LNG vessel at the Dabhol LNG terminal, enabled by the completion of its pioneering breakwater project.
The vessel, GAIL Bhuwan, was received on June 2, 2025, by GAIL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Sandeep Kumar Gupta. This event marks the beginning of uninterrupted, year-round operations at the Dabhol terminal—transforming it into a fully operational all-weather port for the first time.
The newly commissioned breakwater, approved by all necessary statutory authorities, plays a critical role in protecting the terminal from the rough seas and high winds of the Southwest monsoon—conditions that previously limited operations and posed logistical challenges along India’s West Coast. With this upgrade, LNG vessels can now berth and offload cargo regardless of seasonal weather conditions.
This strategic development significantly strengthens India’s energy security by ensuring a stable and continuous supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is essential for power generation, industrial use, and the city gas distribution network. Enhanced year-round operability will also maximize the terminal’s capacity utilization, supporting the country's rising energy demands.
The successful execution of this project underscores GAIL’s commitment to advancing India’s energy infrastructure and reinforces its role as a key contributor to the global LNG ecosystem.
