On July 7, 2025, the Maharashtra Legislative Council passed the Gadchiroli District Mining Authority Bill, aimed at accelerating and coordinating the development of mineral-rich areas in Gadchiroli district.
The newly formed authority will focus on:
Fast-tracking development of mineral blocks, Coordinating with mineral concession holders and industries, Facilitating ultra mega steel plants, Ensuring steady raw material supply, Promoting mineral-based industrialisation in a region historically affected by Naxalism
Replacing the Gadchiroli District Mining Authority 2025, the new legislation will cover both major and specified minor minerals. The authority will be chaired by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, with one Minister nominated as Co-Chairperson and another as Deputy Chairperson.
Additional ex-officio members will include:
Two Ministers nominated by the CM, Chief Secretary, Secretaries of Industries, Labour, Energy, Finance, Environment & Climate Change, Revenue, and Forests, Director General, Directorate of Geology and Mining, Collector of Gadchiroli
Managing Director, Maharashtra State Mining Corporation (to serve as Member Secretary)
The initiative is part of the state’s broader push to transform Gadchiroli into a key steel and mining hub by leveraging its vast mineral reserves through structured, high-level coordination.
