Forging the Future: Securing LPG for India’s Wind Sector

The Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association has urged the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to ensure a continuous and reliable supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for the manufacturing of wind turbine components.

The industry body, which represents companies in India’s wind energy sector, stated that manufacturers of key wind turbine components—including castings, forgings, towers, and other structural parts—depend heavily on propane/LPG for high-temperature industrial processes such as metal melting, heat treatment, and fabrication.

In a letter to the ministry, IWTMA noted that any disruption or volatility in gas supply could directly impact manufacturing operations and delay production schedules. Such interruptions may also affect the execution timelines of renewable energy projects, which rely on the timely availability of wind turbine components.
