Forging a Greener Metal Future: The AM Green-Mitsui MoU

AM Green and Mitsui have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore collaboration opportunities in the low-carbon aluminium sector.

Under the MoU, the two companies will also evaluate potential investments across AM Green’s metals value chain, with Mitsui’s participation aimed at supporting the development of the world’s first integrated green aluminium production platform.

As part of its sustainability initiatives, AM Green—through its subsidiary AM Green Aluminium Metals and Materials—recently signed an agreement with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to set up a one-million-tonne-per-year green aluminium complex. The proposed facility will comprise a one MTPA primary aluminium smelter, a two MTPA alumina refinery, and associated mining operations. The entire complex will be powered by renewable energy from wind and solar sources, supported by pumped hydro storage.

In a further boost to its clean energy ambitions, Coal India will supply 4.5 GW of renewable power to AM Green from May 2025 to support its various operations, marking a significant step toward advancing low-carbon industrial solutions.
