Flowing Forward: UP Greenlights ₹74 Cr for 7 New Drainage Projects

The Irrigation and Water Resources Department of Uttar Pradesh has announced plans to construct seven new drainage projects during the financial year 2025–26.

The projects, with a combined outlay of ₹74.3 crore, will be implemented across Bahraich, Bijnor, Gonda, Hapur, and Meerut districts to strengthen irrigation and water management systems. Two drainage projects each will be developed in Bahraich and Bijnor, while one project each will be undertaken in Gonda, Hapur, and Meerut. The new drainage infrastructure is expected to address waterlogging issues and improve irrigation support for agricultural areas.

In addition to these new initiatives, the department is carrying out extensive cleaning of existing drains. A target has been set to clean 17,500 km of drains by March 2026, of which 11,065 km has already been completed. These efforts aim to ensure smooth water flow to farmlands and mitigate flood-related challenges in low-lying rural regions.
