The Tamil Nadu government has formally launched land acquisition for the proposed Thoothukudi shipyard project following administrative approval. The project spans approximately 1,700 acres—including 1,660 acres of government land and 40 acres of patta land—across Mullakadu and Pazhayakayal villages, including retrieved salt pan leases. To address local impact, officials have engaged with affected salt producers and fishermen, offering a comprehensive rehabilitation package that includes job guarantees for one family member, financial assistance, annuities, alternative land at Vaippar, and housing support.
