M. K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, recently laid the foundation stone for fishing infrastructure projects worth over ₹600 crore in Kanniyakumari district and Thoothukudi district through a video conference.
In Kanniyakumari, the projects include the construction of a new fishing harbour at Vaaniyakkudi at an estimated cost of ₹150 crore, along with the expansion of the Colachel fishing harbour, also budgeted at ₹150 crore. These initiatives are aimed at strengthening harbour infrastructure and supporting the local fishing community.
Officials stated that the developments will increase fish handling capacity, introduce modern harbour facilities, and improve livelihood opportunities for fishermen, thereby boosting the coastal economy in the two districts.
