Bengal Gas Company Limited (BGCL) is set to commence piped natural gas (PNG) supply in parts of Hooghly district by February 2026, following the completion of a 20-km pipeline from Rajarambai near Mogra to Swetpur More on Delhi Road.
To support this rollout, BGCL has established a CNG mother station at Jhapa, near Mogra, which is expected to become operational by end-October 2025. This will increase the company’s daily CNG supply capacity from 35 to 50 tonnes, significantly enhancing fuel availability in the region.
BGCL is a 74:26 joint venture between GAIL (India) Ltd. and Greater Calcutta Gas Supply Corporation, and holds the exclusive license for supplying CNG and PNG in Greater Kolkata and adjoining areas, including select parts of Hooghly.
PNG will be delivered through a medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) pipeline network, with 58 km of pipeline laid in Chandannagar and 32 km in Bansberia. Supply to households in Chandannagar, Bansberia, Kodalia, and Debanandapur gram panchayats is targeted to begin between January and February 2026.
BGCL aims to connect 74,000 PNG customers in Hooghly, contributing to its broader goal of reaching 12.18 lakh consumers across its licensed regions.
