Beyond Nandgaon: JSW's ₹4,259 Crore Vision for Murbe Port

JSW Infrastructure, India’s second-largest private port operator led by Sajjan Jindal, has formally exited its proposed greenfield jetty project at Nandgaon in Maharashtra’s Thane district. The company has surrendered both its environmental and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearances, along with the allotted waterfront area.

This marks a strategic shift as JSW Infrastructure now plans to develop a new port at Murbe, with a proposed investment of ₹4,259 crore. The Nandgaon project, which received environmental and CRZ clearance in February 2016, was originally planned as a 16.7 million tonne per annum facility for handling both captive and commercial cargo. However, no construction had commenced at the site due to prolonged delays and unresolved regulatory challenges.

The company previously returned the waterfront to the Maharashtra Maritime Board and has now officially relinquished all associated project approvals.
