Bajel Projects Bags Mega ₹700Cr MSETCL Contract

Bajel Projects Limited has secured an ultra-mega order worth over ₹700 crore from the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL) for the construction of a 400/220 kV Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) substation at Saswad in Pune, along with associated transmission lines. The company stated that this is the largest single order in its power transmission business to date.

The turnkey Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project includes the design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of the substation and related transmission infrastructure. The scope also covers civil works as well as erection, testing, and commissioning (ETC) activities.

A key component of the project is the development of a greenfield 2×500 MVA, 400/220 kV AIS substation equipped with a 1×125 MVAr bus reactor at the 400 kV level, with provisions for future expansion to support Maharashtra’s long-term power requirements. The project also involves bay additions at three existing and proposed substations to integrate the new Saswad facility into the state’s transmission network, along with the construction of multiple 400 kV and 220 kV transmission lines and LILO configurations.

Located in Pune district, the Saswad substation will serve as an important node in Maharashtra’s high-voltage transmission network, enhancing power evacuation capacity for the rapidly industrialising region and strengthening grid reliability across the state.

Commenting on the development, Managing Director & CEO Rajesh Ganesh said the order marks a significant milestone for Bajel Projects and highlights the company’s EPC capabilities in the high-voltage substation segment. He added that the project will play a key role in strengthening Maharashtra’s transmission infrastructure and supporting the region’s growing industrial and urban power demand.
