Amara Raja’s New Charge: The 10 GWh BESS Acceleration

Amara Raja Energy & Mobility is accelerating its investments in battery energy storage systems (BESS) as growing renewable energy deployment and increasing grid stability requirements drive stronger demand for stationary energy storage solutions.

While the company continues to maintain a positive long-term outlook on electric vehicle (EV) adoption, it is recalibrating its near-term strategy to place greater emphasis on energy storage systems. According to management commentary following the FY26 results, the shift is being driven by faster-than-anticipated demand from renewable energy integration, data centres, telecom infrastructure, and grid balancing applications.

The company noted that although EVs were previously expected to dominate near-term battery demand growth, stationary storage systems are now emerging as a larger growth driver in the immediate future, even as EV adoption continues to expand steadily.

As part of its revised strategy, Amara Raja has launched an accelerated project to establish an energy storage system integration facility at Divitipalli in Telangana. The facility is expected to commence production by the end of the current calendar year and is planned to achieve an ultimate production capacity of 10 GWh.

The company further stated that stationary storage applications are expected to account for a significantly larger share of its future demand mix, marking a strategic shift from earlier projections where electric mobility was anticipated to contribute nearly 80 percent of overall battery demand.
