Adani Wins Big: 1.25 GW Hydro Contract Secured in UP Auction.

Adani Green Energy’s subsidiary, Adani Saur Urja, has secured a contract from Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation (UPPCL) to develop 1,250 MW of pumped hydro storage capacity. The Panaura Pumped Storage Project (PSP) will be situated in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, with an operational commitment of at least 40 years and a target completion timeline of six years.

The contract was awarded through an e-reverse auction, with a fixed annual cost of Rs 76,53,226 per MW. This project supports India’s clean energy transition, contributing to the need for large-scale storage solutions that ensure grid stability and enable continuous renewable energy supply.

Adani Green Energy (AGEL), which currently operates India's largest renewable energy portfolio of 11.9 GW across 12 states, is targeting 50 GW by 2030. As part of its expansion into energy storage, the company aims to develop more than five GW of hydro pumped storage capacity by 2030.

The company has already commenced construction on three PSP projects: 500 MW at Chitravathi (Andhra Pradesh), 1,500 MW at Tarali (Maharashtra), and 1,800 MW at Gandikota (Andhra Pradesh).
