Under its Viksit Maharashtra 2047 initiative, the Maharashtra government plans to develop and operate four state-owned ports across the Konkan coastal belt, spanning Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts. Announced by Ports Minister Nitesh Rane, the initiative—led by the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB)—marks a strategic pivot from leasing land to private operators toward direct state ownership and management. In addition to these four ports, which aim to boost coastal logistics and industrial connectivity, the state holds a 26% stake in the ₹76,000 crore Vadhvan Port project, targeted for completion by 2030.
