In a major push to strengthen education infrastructure, the Karnataka government, in collaboration with the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB), will set up 350 new Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) in the Kalyana Karnataka region over the next two years.
Announcing the initiative, KKRDB Chairman Ajay Singh stated that the State Cabinet has approved the construction of 500 Karnataka Public Schools across the state with assistance from the Asian Development Fund. Of these, 150 schools have been sanctioned for the Kalyana Karnataka region. The KKRDB will fund an additional 200 schools, bringing the total to 350 new schools for the region.
Currently, Karnataka has around 300 operational KPS, including 60 in the Kalyana Karnataka region. The new schools will significantly expand access to quality public education in underserved areas.
Each institution will be developed on three to five acres of land, with a project cost ranging from ₹3 crore to ₹5 crore. They will provide education from LKG to Pre-University (PU) level and feature modern facilities, including transport services for students.
Chairman Singh also highlighted that of the ₹8,000 crore allocated to the KKRDB over the past 27 months, ₹6,224 crore has already been utilised, demonstrating strong progress in regional development efforts
