On June 11, 2025, Maharashtra Chief Minister and Energy Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated two significant solar power projects in Akola district, marking a major step forward in the state’s rural electrification and renewable energy goals. As part of the Chief Minister Solar Agriculture Feeder Scheme 2.0, a 2 MW solar plant at Redwa and a 10 MW plant at Bhendimahal in Barshitakli tehsil were officially commissioned.
These projects will supply reliable daytime electricity to over 2,595 farmers in villages such as Dagad Parwa, Kanheri, Dhabha, Pathur, and Nandapur, among others. The Chief Minister also laid foundation stones for two upcoming 10 MW solar parks at Manatri and Akolkhed, set to benefit an additional 1,500 farmers.
Further strengthening local infrastructure, CM Fadnavis performed the bhoomipuja for two 33 KV substations at Hivra Korde and Parad (in Murtijapur tehsil), under the AIIB-supported grid strengthening initiative. With a total investment of ₹6.48 crore, these substations—each with a 5 MVA capacity—will serve over 20 villages, helping to eliminate long-standing issues of power fluctuations.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to clean energy, CM Fadnavis reiterated Maharashtra’s goal of generating 16,000 MW of decentralized solar power. To date, Akola alone has seen the commissioning of 10 solar projects with a combined capacity of 50 MW, directly benefiting over 14,000 farmers with uninterrupted daytime power supply.
