Track to Tomorrow: India’s ₹2,414 Crore Rail Revolution

The Ministry of Railways has approved a series of infrastructure projects worth approximately ₹2,414 crore across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, and Punjab.

The projects are aimed at easing congestion, expanding line capacity, strengthening safety systems, and enabling faster and more reliable movement of passenger and freight trains. Among the key initiatives is the doubling of the Barbenda–Damrughutu section and the construction of third and fourth lines between Damrughutu and Bokaro Steel City in Jharkhand, a major capacity expansion estimated to cost ₹815.32 crore. In addition, the installation of Electronic Interlocking systems at 34 stations on high-density routes, at a cost of ₹421.41 crore, will enhance safety and operational efficiency.

The Rajpura Bypass Line, costing ₹411.96 crore, will augment capacity on the Ambala–Jalandhar corridor and help streamline train movements, improving punctuality. In Kerala, the Alappuzha–Ambalapuzha doubling project will add significant line capacity and allow the operation of additional trains each day. Other approved works, including the Palakkad Town–Parli Bypass and the Irugur–Podanur doubling project, are expected to further improve operational efficiency and freight handling capacity, supporting economic growth and faster rail connectivity across the regions.
