The Final Link: MRTS Phase-II Set to Launch This Saturday

Southern Railway has received a Provisional Authorisation Certificate from the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety for the commissioning of the Velachery–St. Thomas Mount Phase-II section of the Chennai Mass Rapid Transit System.

Following the authorisation, services on the extended stretch will commence from March 14, according to the Southern Railway Chennai Division.

Under the revised timetable, the corridor will operate 43 pairs of services between Chennai Beach railway station and St. Thomas Mount railway station, two pairs between Chennai Beach and Velachery railway station, and three pairs between St. Thomas Mount and Velachery.

According to Southern Railway, the extension will provide direct connectivity across the MRTS corridor, improving integration within the suburban rail network and offering a more seamless travel experience for commuters in Chennai.
