Metro's Yellow Brick Road: Safety First as Inspection Starts!

The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) commenced the crucial safety inspection of Namma Metro’s Yellow Line on 22 July 2025, marking a significant step toward its long-awaited commissioning. The 19.15-km corridor, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra, is part of the metro’s Reach-5 segment.

The inspection follows the receipt of the Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) report by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL). On the first day, the CMRS completed about one-fourth of the inspection. BMRCL Chief Public Relations Officer Yashwant Chavan noted, “The inspection will be completed in the next 3–4 days. Passenger operations can begin once the CMRS grants its final clearance.”

When asked about the number of stations that will be operational initially, he added, “That will be decided after the CMRS issues its authorisation report.”

The Yellow Line, initially targeted for completion in 2021, has faced multiple delays. Its commissioning will significantly enhance metro connectivity in Bengaluru’s southern corridor. Meanwhile, BMRCL is also conducting environmental stakeholder consultations for its upcoming Phase-3 Metro expansion and Double Decker Project.
