Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the Atmanirbhar high-speed bullet train manufacturing facility, ‘Aditya’, at BEML in Bengaluru on April 25, 2026.
India’s push for indigenous high-speed rail gathered momentum with the announcement that the prototype of the Vande Bullet train is expected to roll out in 2027, with production likely to begin in the latter half of the year. The train, part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat programme, is being jointly developed by the Integral Coach Factory and BEML. Manufacturing will be carried out at the newly launched Aditya facility, which features advanced precision equipment, including robotic laser welding systems.
The minister also outlined plans to expand Vande Bharat Express services, including the introduction of a Vande Sleeper train between Bengaluru and Mumbai. This will be the second such service after the Guwahati–Howrah Vande Sleeper launched in January 2026.
Further, additional Vande Bharat chair car services are being planned to connect Bengaluru with Mangaluru and Madgaon. Looking ahead, proposed high-speed corridors such as the Chennai–Bengaluru high-speed rail corridor could reduce travel time to just 73 minutes, significantly enhancing regional connectivity and integrating major urban centres into cohesive economic hubs.
