Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), through its subsidiary Powergrid Khavda II-C Transmission, has successfully commissioned the Khavda II-C Interstate Transmission System (ISTS) scheme in Gujarat.
The project forms part of the “Transmission system for evacuation of 4.5 GW renewable energy injection at Khavda Pooling Station under Phase II, Part C” and was fully commissioned on 31 January 2026. The declaration of commercial operation (DOCO) was received on 2 February 2026.
With an investment of ₹2,821 crore, the scheme comprises two key components: a 765 kV double-circuit transmission line connecting the Ahmedabad substation to the New Navsari substation, spanning 590 circuit kilometres (ckm), and a greenfield 765/400 kV substation at Ahmedabad. The substation was commissioned in phases between September and November 2025, while completion of the transmission line marked the final milestone of the project.
Despite delays arising from forest clearance issues, the project was completed within 25 months of the original schedule. The commissioning of Khavda II-C represents PGCIL’s eighth ISTS project under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework in FY26, with additional projects expected to be commissioned by March 2026.
