A large-scale pumped storage hydro power project, with an estimated investment of ₹9,731.47 crore, is planned to come up in Nayagarh, Odisha. Envisioned as a massive “green battery,” the project will store surplus renewable energy and release it during peak demand periods to help stabilise the power grid.
As of February 2026, the proposal has received formal investment clearance from the state’s High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA), paving the way for its development.
