NLC India and APDCL Launch Renewable Energy JV in Assam

NLC India has officially established a joint venture with Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd. (APDCL) to accelerate renewable energy development in Assam. The new entity, NIRL Assam Renewables, was incorporated on 07 May 2025, following registration with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

The joint venture is a collaboration between NLC India Renewables Ltd. (NIRL)—a wholly-owned subsidiary of NLC India—and APDCL, with an equity shareholding of 51:49, respectively. This structure ensures majority ownership and control remains with NIRL.

NIRL Assam Renewables has been created to develop, operate, and maintain renewable energy projects throughout the state, supporting Assam’s efforts to meet its renewable energy targets and contribute to India's broader clean energy goals. The JV will focus on deploying solar and other green energy solutions in line with national sustainability objectives.

The formation of the JV was approved by the Ministry of Coal, with prior concurrence from the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), and formal clearance was granted on 07 March 2025.

This strategic partnership marks a significant step in Assam’s commitment to a greener energy mix and reinforces NLC India's expanding renewable energy footprint, including recent solar initiatives in states like Rajasthan.
