NHPC has reached a major milestone in the development of India’s largest hydroelectric project with the successful synchronisation of Unit-3 (250 MW) of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHEP) to the national grid on 21 January 2026.
The addition of 250 MW of clean hydropower strengthens India’s renewable energy capacity, enhances grid stability, and supports the country’s long-term energy transition goals. With an installed capacity of 2,000 MW, the Subansiri Lower project will become the largest hydroelectric facility in India once fully commissioned. The successful synchronisation underscores NHPC’s technical capability and efficient project execution, setting the stage for the phased commissioning of the remaining units.
Upon completion, the project is expected to play a crucial role in meeting India’s growing power demand while significantly contributing to sustainable and renewable energy generation.
