Maharashtra’s 10,000-Crore Power Play: The Future of Clean Energy

The Maharashtra government has signed an agreement worth Rs 10,217 crore for the development of the 2,100 MW Pimpalpada–Savale pumped storage project, marking a major step toward strengthening the state’s clean energy and power storage infrastructure.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Water Resources Department of Maharashtra and Chambery Power, a subsidiary of EDF Power Solutions India. The project will be developed across Pune district and Raigad district, and is designed to help balance electricity supply by storing surplus power during periods of low demand and releasing it during peak demand. This capability will be crucial for maintaining grid stability.

The project is expected to generate around 2,500 employment opportunities during its construction and operational phases. Once operational, the pumped storage facility will support the integration of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power into the state’s grid, reinforcing Maharashtra’s clean energy strategy and ensuring a more reliable and sustainable power supply.
