Chhattisgarh State Power Transmission Company Limited (CSPTCL) has strengthened the state’s electricity transmission infrastructure by enhancing the capacities of its key 220/132 kV substations at Bhilai and Kuthrel, adding a combined 355 MVA to the power grid.
The capacity augmentation is aimed at meeting the growing electricity requirements of industrial, commercial, and residential consumers while improving the reliability, efficiency, and stability of power transmission across the state. The upgrades are expected to support Chhattisgarh’s expanding economy and rising energy demand driven by industrialisation and urban development.
At the Bhilai substation, CSPTCL upgraded an existing transformer from 125 MVA to 160 MVA, increasing the station’s ability to manage higher power loads and ensuring a more robust electricity supply for Bhilai and surrounding areas. The enhancement is expected to improve voltage regulation, minimise the risk of overloading, and facilitate future growth in key regions including Raipur, Durg, Bhilai, Gurur, and Balod.
In a parallel development, the company commissioned a new 160 MVA transformer at its Kuthrel substation in Dharsiwa. With the addition of the new transformer, the substation’s total installed capacity has increased to 480 MVA, making it the fourth-largest 220 kV substation in the Raipur region. The expanded capacity will help accommodate increasing demand from industrial clusters, urban centres, and upcoming development projects.
The infrastructure upgrades form part of CSPTCL’s broader strategy to modernise the state’s transmission network, strengthen grid resilience, and ensure the delivery of reliable, high-quality power. By expanding transmission capacity and improving operational efficiency, the company aims to support sustained economic growth, industrial expansion, and urbanisation across Chhattisgarh while maintaining a stable and secure electricity supply system.
