Green Power Play: NTPC NETRA to Turn Trash into Clean Hydrogen

NTPC has announced plans to set up a green hydrogen production facility in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, with a capacity of one tonne per day.

The project will be executed by NTPC Energy Technology Research Alliance (NETRA), the company’s research and development arm. The facility will deploy plasma gasification technology to convert waste into tar-free syngas, which will subsequently be processed to produce hydrogen using PSA or membrane-based separation technology.

NTPC is India’s largest power producer, supplying nearly one-fourth of the country’s electricity. The company currently has an installed capacity of over 85 GW, with an additional 30.90 GW under construction, including 13.3 GW of renewable energy projects.

As part of its long-term growth strategy, NTPC aims to achieve a total capacity of 149 GW by 2032, with 60 GW sourced from renewable energy, and further expand its overall capacity to 244 GW by 2037.
