Petronet Powers Up: Dahej Terminal Hits 22.5 MTPA Milestone

Petronet LNG has received commissioning approval for its 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) expansion at the Dahej LNG terminal, marking a significant enhancement of India’s regasification capacity. The development was announced by Nidhi Kesarwani, Joint Secretary at the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), on April 22, 2026.

With the expansion now approved, the Dahej terminal’s total regasification capacity has increased from 17.5 MTPA to 22.5 MTPA, reinforcing its position as one of India’s प्रमुख liquefied natural gas import hubs.

The additional capacity is expected to improve LNG storage and handling efficiency while supporting the country’s rising demand for cleaner energy sources. The move aligns with India’s broader strategy to strengthen energy security and transition away from more polluting fossil fuels.

Officials noted that the upgraded infrastructure at Dahej will play a vital role in meeting growing industrial and domestic energy needs, particularly as natural gas consumption continues to expand across sectors.
