Petrochemical Power: PM Lays Foundation for ₹5,500-Cr Kochi Unit

On 11 March 2026, Narendra Modi inaugurated and dedicated several major development projects worth over ₹10,000 crore to the nation during his visit to Kerala.

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for a ₹5,500-crore polypropylene unit at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited’s Kochi Refinery, marking a significant step in strengthening India’s petrochemical sector. He also inaugurated two major highway projects, each valued at over ₹2,000 crore, aimed at improving road connectivity and supporting the state’s infrastructure and economic growth.

In addition, a new train service was flagged off to enhance sustainable transport and regional connectivity. As part of railway sector developments, the Prime Minister dedicated three redeveloped stations—including Kuttippuram Railway Station and Changanassery Railway Station—under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at a total cost of ₹52 crore.

These modernised stations now feature improved passenger amenities and enhanced accessibility, strengthening Kerala’s overall transportation infrastructure.
