₹82,000 Cr Polavaram-Banakacherla DPR Nears Submission

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the ₹82,000 crore Polavaram–Banakacherla Irrigation Project is currently being prepared for submission to the Central government. During a Cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat in Velagapudi, the Chief Minister underscored the strategic importance of the project in addressing the water scarcity issues of the drought-prone Rayalaseema region, aiming to ensure water supply for drinking, irrigation, and industrial needs.

The State government, in collaboration with the Centre, has nearly finalised a financial model for the ambitious project. According to Minister for Information and Public Relations Kolusu Parthasarathy, the funding structure will comprise 50% from Externally Aided Project (EAP) loans, 20% from the Central government, 10% from the State government, and the remaining 20% through the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM).
