Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Chenab Bridge today — the world’s highest railway arch bridge, soaring 359 meters above the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir. Alongside it, he will also unveil the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge. Both structures are part of the landmark Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, aimed at providing all-weather rail connectivity to the Kashmir Valley.
The Chenab Bridge, an engineering marvel built in the rugged Himalayan terrain of Reasi district, stands as a testament to India's civil engineering capabilities. It plays a vital role in the USBRL corridor, paving the way for seamless rail travel, including the introduction of Vande Bharat Express services between Katra and Srinagar.
These bridges are set to transform transportation and economic activity in the region, significantly improving mobility for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Their inauguration marks a historic achievement in Indian Railways’ infrastructure development and a major stride in national integration.
