DDA's Mega Project: 750 Green Spaces, Treated Water

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is launching a major water management initiative by building its own sewage treatment plants (STPs) to supply treated water for irrigating 750 green spaces across Delhi.

Covering more than 10,000 acres, these areas include parks, biodiversity zones, forests, the Yamuna Riverfront, golf courses, and sports complexes. The goal is to establish a cost-effective, self-reliant irrigation system and reduce dependence on the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), which currently provides water through pipelines and tankers.

A consultant will be appointed to develop a detailed project report (DPR), outlining the STPs’ design, technical specifications, and operational framework. The study will evaluate the current water demand—estimated at 34 million liters per day (MLD)—and examine methods for raw sewage collection, treatment technologies, and water distribution.

This initiative aims to streamline irrigation, cut costs, and promote sustainable water use across all DDA-managed landscapes.
