NHPC has announced that Unit-2 of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, with a 250 MW capacity, is expected to start commercial power supply in December 2025. The company reported that test synchronization of the unit with the national grid was successfully completed on December 2, marking a key milestone toward full operations.
The Subansiri Lower project, a run-of-the-river scheme with small pondage, has a total planned capacity of 2,000 MW. Situated near North Lakhimpur on the Arunachal Pradesh–Assam border, it is strategically important for strengthening power supply in the Northeast. Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate around 7,421.59 million units of electricity annually in a 90% dependable year, contributing significantly to clean energy production.
