Reliance Industries and Meta Platforms have strengthened their strategic partnership with an agreement to develop a large-scale AI-enabled data centre in India, marking a significant advancement in the country’s digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence ecosystem.
The proposed facility will be established in Jamnagar, Gujarat, and is intended to support Meta’s expanding requirements for artificial intelligence computing, data processing, and digital services. Under the agreement, Reliance will develop a dedicated data centre with an initial capacity of 168 MW, which will be leased to Meta and designed with the flexibility to scale up as future demand grows.
A key feature of the project is its emphasis on sustainability. The facility will be powered entirely by renewable energy sources and will utilise desalinated seawater for cooling operations, reducing its environmental footprint while supporting energy-efficient data centre operations. Meta will be responsible for covering the operational costs associated with energy consumption and water usage.
The project is expected to contribute to the development of advanced digital infrastructure in India, strengthen the country’s AI capabilities, and support the growing demand for high-performance computing resources. It also reflects the increasing importance of India as a destination for large-scale technology investments and next-generation digital infrastructure projects.
Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani described the collaboration as a transformative milestone for India’s digital future, highlighting the country’s potential to emerge as a global hub for artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and advanced data centre development. The partnership underscores the shared commitment of both companies to fostering innovation, sustainability, and technological growth in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital markets.
