The Madurai Corporation is transforming its underground sewerage network via a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Backed by the state government, Phase 1 focuses on modernizing roughly 786 km of aging sewer lines in core zones—including the historic Meenakshi Amman Temple district. The ambitious overhaul will replace 40-year-old pipelines, upgrade key pumping stations, revamp two primary treatment plants, and introduce a centralised monitoring system to eliminate sewage overflows across the city.
