Engineering major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has forayed into the industrial electronics segment with the launch of a new business vertical, L&T Electronic Products & Systems (LTEPS), with manufacturing operations being established in Coimbatore.
The company has already begun production at its 40-acre campus in the city, where two printed circuit board (PCB) assembly lines have been commissioned. These lines are currently focused on producing DC-DC and AC-DC converters used in chargers, including catering to initial requirements within the L&T group.
Prashant Chiranjive Jain, Head of Corporate Centre at L&T, said the company has operationalised the PCB assembly lines and is starting with converter manufacturing as part of its initial phase.
Going forward, L&T plans to expand its presence at the Coimbatore facility with the construction of a larger unit. A ground-plus-three building with an area of around 20,000 sq ft is planned within the campus to support the scaling up of its industrial electronics operations.
