Amazon India’s ₹2,800 Cr Bet: Scaling Safety and Speed

Amazon India has announced plans to invest over ₹2,800 crore to strengthen safety, health, and financial well-being initiatives for its workforce, alongside expanding its operations network across the country.

The investment is part of the company’s broader commitment to invest more than $35 billion in India by 2030. It comes as the e-commerce major accelerates growth in its core online retail and quick commerce segments, with plans to significantly expand the footprint of its Amazon Now service across existing cities and enter new markets.

Abhinav Singh, Vice President of Operations for Amazon India and Australia, said the company is focusing on workforce welfare alongside operational growth. He noted that the ₹2,800 crore (around $300 million) investment will enhance associate safety, health, and financial security, while also supporting technology upgrades for faster and more reliable deliveries.

Amazon India said its associate-focused initiatives align with national programmes such as Ayushman Bharat and Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, which aim to improve access to healthcare and financial services.

As part of its 2026 plans, the company will expand Project Ashray to provide accessible rest facilities for delivery associates, and scale health programmes like Sushruta, including preventive care through medical camps across the country. It also plans to enhance medical and accident insurance coverage and extend financial inclusion through the Samriddhi programme, enabling enrolment in schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

Additionally, under the Pratidhi programme, Amazon India will increase support for associates’ children through scholarships and mentorship initiatives, further strengthening its workforce support ecosystem.
