Traffic Relief in Sight: The Halaga–Macche Bypass is Almost Here!

Jagadish Shettar, MP from the Bharatiya Janata Party, has announced that work on the Halaga–Macche Bypass—a key four-km road connecting two National Highways around Belagavi—will be completed by the end of this month.

The entire 13.33-km bypass project is expected to be ready by the end of the year. The route will connect Suvarna Soudha on the Pune–Bengaluru National Highway to Visvesvaraya Technological University on the Belagavi–Goa National Highway. The bypass is intended to ease congestion in Belagavi by diverting heavy vehicles travelling from Goa towards Hubballi away from the city’s main roads. A service road along the corridor is also expected to be completed by April.

Meanwhile, the six-lane Belagavi–Sankeshwar Highway project is nearing completion, while land acquisition for Phase 1 of the Belagavi–Hungund–Raichur Highway is almost finished.

Progress is also being made on the Belagavi–Kittur–Dharwad Railway Line, with about 1,200 acres of land already acquired for the first phase. The Government of Karnataka has sanctioned ₹50 crore to compensate affected farmers, and tenders for railway construction are expected to be issued soon.
