Bhupendra Patel has approved road infrastructure projects worth ₹1,185 crore to strengthen connectivity in the Surat Economic Region, a key growth hub of South Gujarat. The initiative supports the state’s long-term development vision of Viksit Gujarat @2047, aligned with Narendra Modi’s national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 during the Amrit Kaal period.
The approved plan includes 24 road upgradation projects covering 383 km across five districts—Surat, Tapi district, Valsad district, Bharuch district, and Navsari district. These upgrades aim to improve connectivity between industrial clusters, GIDC estates, and major transport corridors in the region.
Under the guidance of the Chief Minister, the Gujarat State Institution for Transformation (GRIT) has prepared Regional Economic Master Plans for six growth hubs across Gujarat, promoting balanced economic development across districts. The Surat Economic Region alone contributes over 35% of the state’s total economic output, making it a crucial driver of Gujarat’s economy.
Improved roads are expected to boost logistics efficiency, enabling smoother movement of goods and labour while supporting industries such as textiles, chemicals, petrochemicals, diamonds, fisheries, sugar, dairy, and mining. Connectivity to key industrial estates—including Kadod, Kadodara, Jolva, Mangrol, Kosamba, and Tadkeshwar GIDC areas—will facilitate industrial expansion. Farmers are also expected to benefit as faster transport links will help agricultural produce reach markets more efficiently.
The upgrades will also enhance access to tourism destinations such as Siddhnath Mahadev Temple, Shabari Dham, Pandav Gufa, AnjKund, Sanjan ni Agiyari, Saputara, and Wilson Hills, along with forest regions in Mahal.
The Surat Economic Region is being positioned as a strategic growth engine under Viksit Gujarat @2047. The improved infrastructure is expected to create opportunities in emerging sectors such as semiconductors, green hydrogen, and logistics, generating employment for the region’s youth.
Through these projects, the Gujarat government aims to accelerate infrastructure-led development, ensuring that the Surat Economic Region continues to play a leading role in the state’s ambition of building a $3.5 trillion economy by 2047, while fulfilling its governance commitment of “Je Kahevu Te Karvu” (Delivering on Promises).
