Modi’s ₹33.5K Cr Milestone: A Giant Leap for Urban Infrastructure

Narendra Modi recently inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth around ₹33,500 crore in New Delhi. During the event, the Prime Minister was also felicitated for his contributions to national development initiatives.

Earlier in the day, he visited the Sarojini Nagar Government Residential Complex and handed over keys of newly constructed GPRA Type-5 quarters to women allottees. The Government of India is undertaking a large-scale redevelopment of seven ageing government housing colonies in the capital through an innovative self-financing model, which does not require funding from the public exchequer.

The redevelopment programme includes Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Nauroji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, Thyagraj Nagar, Sriniwaspuri, and Mohammadpur, covering a total area of around 537 acres.

Officials stated that many of the existing government quarters had become old and structurally unsafe, with nearly 40% declared uninhabitable, making the redevelopment effort essential to improve urban housing quality, safety, and infrastructure for government employees in the capital.
