"₹1,879 Crore Boost: India Fortifies Borders with 50 New Projects"

On May 7, 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh dedicated 50 strategic infrastructure projects of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to the nation during the 66th BRO Raising Day celebrations at Ashoka Hall, Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. These projects — comprising 30 bridges, 17 roads, and three other key works — span six border states and two Union Territories: Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Mizoram, West Bengal, and Rajasthan.

Constructed at a total cost of ₹1,879 crore, the projects aim to enhance India’s border security and improve connectivity in remote and strategically important regions. Speaking at the event, the Defence Minister praised the BRO for its steadfast dedication to national development, despite the challenges posed by rugged terrain and extreme weather.

The virtual inauguration aligns with BRO’s ongoing mission to bolster border infrastructure and expand access in far-flung areas. Over the past two years, BRO has completed 161 projects worth ₹5,600 crore, including 111 last year alone. In total, 456 projects amounting to ₹13,743 crore have been completed over the past four years.

The 66th Raising Day not only highlighted BRO’s vital contributions to national defence infrastructure but also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the armed forces and promoting socio-economic growth in frontier regions.
