Flyover Fiesta: Mehdipatnam-Gachibowli's $398-Cr Makeover

To ease chronic traffic congestion along the Mehdipatnam–PVNR Expressway–Gachibowli corridor, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has announced a major infrastructure upgrade with the construction of multi-level flyovers and grade separators at the Rethibowli and Nanalnagar junctions.

The ₹398 crore project, part of the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) initiative, aims to create a signal-free corridor to significantly boost traffic flow and reduce commute times. Of the total budget, ₹220 crore is earmarked for the construction of flyovers and grade separators. The remaining funds will cover land acquisition, relocation of underground utilities (including water, sewer, and power lines), consultancy, incidental works, and the installation of noise barriers.

The project will be implemented on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) basis. Proposals have been invited, with a construction timeline of two years, followed by a two-year defect liability period. The viaduct is being designed for a minimum travel speed of 40 km/h, with structural components capable of supporting speeds up to 80 km/h.
