Green Light for Mumbai’s Marine Drive Mega-Tunnel!

The MCZMA has officially approved key design modifications for the highly anticipated P D’Mello Orange Gate–Marine Drive underground tunnel.

During its 198th meeting, the Authority greenlit the MMRDA’s revised plans to seamlessly link the Eastern Freeway with the Mumbai Coastal Road. To handle the upcoming traffic surge, Marine Drive’s carriageway will be reconfigured into a smart 3+3+3+4 lane system. The best part? To make room for these lanes while preserving the iconic Queen’s Necklace view, MMRDA plans to extend the seafront promenade further into the sea—a proposal now heading to the MoEF&CC for final clearance. This project marks a massive leap forward in slashing East-West travel times and untangling Mumbai's traffic gridlock.
