The National Capital Region Planning Board is set to review a futuristic draft plan designed to prepare the region for an additional 30 million residents. The Regional Plan 2041 outlines a massive shift toward a decentralized urban model, featuring up to eight new greenfield townships spread across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
A standout feature of the proposal is the "30-minute NCR" initiative, which promises to slash travel times between Delhi and key regional hubs using high-speed rail systems and potential heli-taxis. To curb traffic congestion and commuting stress, the plan emphasizes smart, self-sustaining cities built on "walk-to-work" and "walk-to-study" layouts. With projections indicating the NCR will top the charts as the world’s largest urban agglomeration by 2030, executing this vision for balanced, sustainable growth will call for a monumental investment of approximately ₹20 lakh crore.
