ONGC and TotalEnergies Partner on Methane Detection

ONGC and TotalEnergies have collaborated to advance methane emissions detection and measurement campaigns, leveraging TotalEnergies' cutting-edge Airborne Ultralight Spectrometer for Environmental Applications (AUSEA) technology. This partnership was formalized during the India Energy Week 2024 held in Goa.

This initiative aligns with ONGC's commitment to curbing methane emissions in India by 2030, in accordance with the objectives outlined in the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC), of which both companies are signatories. TotalEnergies' AUSEA gas analyzer, deployed via drone, features dual sensors capable of precisely identifying methane and carbon dioxide emissions sources simultaneously, heralding a significant advancement in emissions detection and measurement methodologies compared to conventional techniques.

ONGC joins a growing roster of national entities collaborating with TotalEnergies for AUSEA technology adoption, including Petrobras in Brazil, SOCAR in Azerbaijan, Sonangol in Angola, and NNPCL in Nigeria. Having already halved its methane emissions from operated sites between 2010 and 2020, TotalEnergies is committed to further reducing emissions by 50 percent by 2025, aiming to achieve this milestone in 2024, and by 80 percent by 2030 compared to 2020 levels.
