AIC Iron Industries Pvt. Ltd., headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal, is embarking on an ambitious expansion of its steel plant located in Benipur, Saltor, in the Purulia district. This expansion involves the installation of a new 400 TPD Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) Kiln, addition of three 15-ton Induction Furnaces with matching Ladle Refining Furnace (LRF) & Continuous Casting Machine (CCM), a 0.192 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) Rolling Mill with a 15-ton per hour (TPH) Reheating Furnace, and a 13 MW Captive Power Plant. This expansion is designed to enhance the company's production capabilities significantly, focusing on a comprehensive range of structural steel products including angles, channels, joists, TMT bars, wire rods, strips, and pipes.
Currently, AIC Iron Industries operates from a plant in Benipur, Purulia, with an annual production capacity of 78,300 tonnes of billets, derived from a set of Induction Furnaces. The proposed expansion represents a significant scale-up in production capacity, aiming to produce 132,000 TPA of Sponge Iron and 146,000 TPA of billets. The inclusion of a 0.192 MTPA Rolling Mill is expected to broaden the company's product range, meeting the growing demand for structural steel products in the construction sector.
The expansion project will take place within the confines of the existing plant area, extending over 24.74 acres (10.01 hectares), with additional land being acquired to accommodate the new installations. This strategic utilization of space ensures that the expansion will not only augment production capacity but also enhance the efficiency of the plant's operations.
To support the increased production, the project will require a substantial amount of resources, including water and power. Approximately 354 cubic meters per day of water will be sourced from the River Damodar to meet the needs of the expanded operations. The project's total power requirement is estimated to be about 24 MW, with 13 MW supplied by the newly proposed Captive Power Plant and the remainder expected to be sourced from the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).
