A ₹1,800 Crore Milestone: Shree Cement Enters the Northeast

Shree Cement has announced a significant greenfield expansion in Northeast India, with its Board approving the development of a new integrated cement plant in Meghalaya, as per a regulatory filing dated April 4, 2026.

The upcoming facility will be located in Village Daistong in the East Jaintia Hills district, marking the company’s first manufacturing presence in the region. The plant is planned with a clinker capacity of 0.95 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and a cement capacity of 0.99 MTPA, involving an estimated investment of around ₹1,800 crore. Commissioning is targeted by the quarter ending March 2028.

This expansion is aimed at addressing the rising demand for cement driven by infrastructure development and housing growth across the Northeastern states. It is also expected to enhance supply chain efficiency and lower logistics costs for the company. The project will be financed through a combination of internal accruals and debt, underlining Shree Cement’s strong financial position and long-term growth strategy.

Once operational, the Meghalaya unit is set to bolster the company’s footprint in India’s eastern and northeastern markets, further strengthening its position as a leading player in the country’s cement industry.
